NAMED.

“But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”                                                                                        Isaiah 43:1

NAMED. Each one of us has been given a name. As you introduce yourself you give people your preferred name. When someone calls your name you likely turn towards them; then you open your ears and listen. When people mispronounce your name you will likely correct them, because you want to be called by your name. Your name gives you a sense of identity.

            Israel has not listened to God, and has not heard the words of the Lord. In the last half of chapter 42 they are called blind and deaf (v. 18), trapped in holes and hidden in prisons (v. 22). Israel has not only been taken over by darkness, their senses have become less sensitive. Israel sits in darkness and is taken full advantage of by others; God let this happen because of His righteous anger. Still then God comes to Israel, with another chance. He reminds them of His saving grace. His redemption and love for His people is stronger than their transgressions against Him. 

            God calls your name. When you are in the deepest pit, in utter darkness He calls out for you because He wants you. He calls you by your name, personally calls you and says, “You are mine.” No matter what people rule over you, rest in the promise that the Creator God has called you by your name. Listen to His voice – for you are His!

Prayer: Creator God, You have created me and formed me, redeemed me and called me by my name. Remind me that no matter what happens I am Yours. I am Yours, LORD, always. Amen.
